Founded in 1998, Risi Competizione was organized and managed by Guiseppe Risi, a Houston based Ferrari and Maserati dealership. Risi spent the 2005 season giving technical support to the Maserati entry in GT 1. For the 2006 season, Risi will field a team of Ferrari 430 GT1s. The Ferrari marquee is one of four makers to win in the GT 2 Class. Risi is no stranger to the series winning the IMSA CUP in 2003 for the top private team. With the introduction of this new car, RISI should challenge well in GT 2.
This was the way it was supposed to end, the perfect final episode for a season of challenges: one race for the GT2 championship, with everything on the line, ace drivers in the cockpit, nothing held back, and an international TV audience watching the every move of a team kissed by destiny and shunned by luck.
A Risi Competizione Ferrari F430GT, driven by Marino Franchitti, Maurizio Mediani, and Anthony Lazarro, recovered from a first hour setback to move all the way from 10th to second place in the GT2 class in the 2006 Petit Le Mans endurance race. The race runs for 10 hours or 1000 miles, whichever comes first. This year, it was the 1000 miles, as the overall winning LMP1 Audi finished the 1000 miles in 9 hours, 16 minutes, and 48 seconds.
Two Risi Competizione Ferrari F430GT race cars finished first and second in class in the Labour Day Grand Prix of Mosport American Le Mans Series Race held at the Mosport race track in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. It was a historic day for Ferrari in the ALMS series as Risi Competizione won their third race of the season with the number 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari driven by Stephane Ortelli and Johnny Mowlen; their teammates, Toni Vilander and Maurzio Mediani drove the Number 61 Ferri Competizione/Ferrari of Silicon Valley F430GT to second place.
In the qualifying round on Saturday August 19th, Stephane Ortelli qualified third for Risi Competizione #62 F430 in the GT 2 Class at the Generac 500 at Road America to be run 2 pm CST Sunday August 20th.
Maybe it was the move west. Maybe it was the new track. Maybe it was the return of Jaime Melo and Mika Salo, the “O” boys. Maybe it was the speed of the Ferrari F430GT on the 4.5 mile, 24 turn course. Or maybe it was just their time. Whatever the reason, Risi Competizione became the fifth team to win a GT2 race in the American Le Mans Series this year, taking the checkered flag at the inaugural Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park outside of Salt Lake City with a convincing 11 second lead over the second placed Peterson Motorsports/White Lightening Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister. Third place went to another Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, this time the Flying Lizards Motorsports entry piloted by GT2 points leader Johannes van Overbeek, and Wolf Henzler.
