The battle lines have been drawn for Sunday’s American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio, and the combatants in the GT1 class are as evenly matched as possible. Corvette Racing drivers Oliver Gavin and Johnny O’Connell qualified second and fourth respectively, splitting the Aston Martins of Tomas Enge and Pedro Lamy in the first and third spots. Less than three tenths of a second separated the two quickest qualifiers, while the third and fourth cars were split by three thousandths of a second.

Under a full moon and under the lights on a balmy Friday night at Houston’s Reliant Park, Corvette Racing posted a 1-2 finish in the GT1 class in the inaugural ALMS Lone Star Grand Prix. Drivers Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta continued their hot streak, winning their seventh consecutive ALMS race. The “two Ollies” finished second overall in the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R behind the winning LMP1 Audi R8, and took the GT1 title by 15.811 seconds over their teammates Johnny O’Connell and Ron Fellows in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R.

Corvette Racing’s twin Corvettes will start the inaugural ALMS Lone Star Grand Prix at the front of the GT1 class after Ron Fellows and Olivier Beretta qualified first and second respectively. Fellows turned the quickest qualifying lap for the 16th time in his ALMS career with a time of 1:08.035 (89.425 mph) in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R on the 1.7-mile, 10-turn temporary circuit in Houston’s Reliant Park. Olivier Beretta was just a heartbeat behind at 1.08.090 (89.352 mph) in the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R. Less than six tenths of a second separated the Corvettes from their Aston Martin rivals.
