Sebring Winter Test 2007 is complete while we wait for the green flag to drop at the Mobil One Twelve Hours of Sebring. Since its inception, the public receives its first view on new technology of what will be competing in the new season. This year the Acura prototype was the car that everyone has traveled to see.  They will be competing in the P2 class with three different teams. Not to be outdone, Porsche also released a new version of the RS Spyder and 911 GT3 RSR 997.
The battle has begun and the Dyson Racing Porsche captured the fastest lap of the three day test session. Andy Wallace really enjoys the new equipment and in the final session got the car down to a lap time of 1:46.983.  Acura’s had a very good showing, especially in that this was first experience with other competition on the track in this series. Learning curves have to be fast because the teams that you are racing against will always try to be a step ahead of you.
Acura had a press conference on Tuesday and reported that tests are going well and they are concentrating on reliability. Once they have mastered the reliability on these cars they will try to attain the all out speed by which they will provide major competition. Honda Racing Development has been running simulations on the engines and they said that they have had success. The fastest Acura was Fernandez Racing with Adrian at the wheel with a 1:47.006 which was .23 seconds off of the Porsche.
In GT2, we received our first look at the Porsche 997 that will be challenging the champion Ferrari F430 Risi Competizione. Wolf Henzler of Tafel Racing completed a lap on Wednesday of 2:01.678 to gain the fastest car in this class over the Ferrari. This class just as the 2006 season has a promise of having multiple cars being able to win each weekend.
The morning of March 17th will be the beginning of the big event in which the car that outperforms and lasts the complete 12 Hours will be engraved into the history books at this famous track. Will it be the common trend of alternative diesel fuel going for another win or will one of the light P2 gasoline powered cars swoop a victory away from Audi. There is a lot of time for many things to happen and it is leading into one of the most exciting races in the past couple of years. Stay tuned for PitJournal.com for complete American Le Mans Series racing news.
