Road America will be the stomping ground for the 7th round of the American Le Mans Series as it rolls into action again. This historical track has beautiful scenery and gives the fan an excellent viewing spectacle. The cars will be at peak performance with temperatures being in the mid to high 70’s this weekend. Temperatures will play a huge difference compared to the last two rounds of the series.
Penske Racing and Audi Racing North America have made news in different ways in the past week with different topics. Intersport Racing has been the consistent team in the battle of the tortoise and the hare battle that has gone on. Has the Porsche P2 been concentrating on winning overall instead of dominating P2? They are splitting Lucas Luhr and Sascha Maasen to double the chances of them winning the championship in case one of the cars has mechanical failure.
Audi remains undefeated with their turbo diesel R10 and the IMSA is trying to make the competition a little closer together. With any new technology you never know how the outcome will be since no one has been successful with it so far. Dyson Racing has been granted the car being 65 kilograms lighter then the Audi TDI. As for the next round at Mosport the Dyson will also be given a five-liter more fuel take also. In their latest press release, Audi responded to the rule changes by stating, “further participation in the American Le Mans Series is under discussion”.
The American Le Mans Series is not a cookie cutter series although the minor adjustments to the cars the last couple of races have sparked a lot of controversy. Does the fan base want to see a couple of cars run away with the championship? Or do we want to see wheel-to-wheel action over the complete year such as the GT2 class? The series is for the fans and do they want to see different cars running away with the championship?
Only time will tell what will happen with these world class makes as they compete on some of the greatest circuits in North America. In the next couple of races we should see where they would be competing next year as well. Usually we see the next race schedule released at the Petit Le Mans although it seems like it might be released before then. Stay tuned to PitJournal.com for all the latest developments in the American Le Mans Series.
