The American Le Mans Series will roar back into action on Saturday, July 1st when they visit the challenging short course of Lime Rock Park. Close wheel-to-wheel action is to be expected as the prototypes make their way through the busy traffic. This race the spectator will be able to witness the final chapter of the Audi R8 after years of dominance.
Audi will not have their R10 24 Hour of Le Mans winning diesel competing until the next round at Salt Lake City. Penske’s Porsche RS Spyder will be hot for another overall win with this nice tight and twisty circuit. Lime Rock Park is a rougher then the smooth repaved surface of the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, look out for if the Porsche can overcome their problems with the car on non-smooth surfaces.
Fresh off of their battle over the pond the GT1 class with the winning Corvette Racing Team will continue their battle with the Aston Martin’s. The Aston’s lead the 24 Hours of Le Mans for 21 hours until the had a problem with the cultch which put corvette into the lead for their fifth time in the last six years. It should be a great race in class as these two teams clash again for the fifth time this season.
So far in GT2 there are 10 entries as we wait to see if there is an announcement of Team Lexus having any entries. There is a possibility of them having at least one car to debut at Lime Rock Park although they are not on the entry list of the 24 current cars. With great teams and competition GT2 has been the battle to watch. The only question that remands is who will win, Porsche, Ferrari, Panoz, BMW, or Lexus each race?
Lime Rock Park should provide exciting to the sports car fan in the rolling hills of Connecticut this weekend. The chance of a P2 Porsche to maybe snag another overall win again before the mighty Audi R10 comes across finishing the rest of the American Le Mans Series. Also the close of a chapter in dominance in sports car racing in the rigid Audi R8. Stay tuned to PitJournal.com for all the latest American Le Mans Series news.
