Corvette Racing officials have announced the perennial championship winning team will return to the American Le Mans Series in 2007 to defend its GT1 drivers, team and manufacturers crown in North America’s leading sports car series. In addition, plans are underway for another assault on this year’s 24Â Hours of Le Mans.
Allan McNish and Dindo Capello have been given the opportunity to retain their American Le Mans Series LMP1 championship in 2007 as Audi AG announced its full-season lineup and program with the diesel-powered R10 TDI. Audi Sport North America will field two of the revolutionary cars for all 12 rounds of the 2007 season, starting with the 55th annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
The North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan is the largest auto show this side of the globe, perhaps the world. Each year, executives from the American Le Mans Series roll into Detroit not only to meet with the hierarchies of the manufacturers who participate in the world’s premier sports car series, but also to learn of new developments and innovations each will announce during Media Days, the three-day introductory to the show.
Eager to compete again for class wins and championships in the American Le Mans Series, Intersport Racing and Kumho Tire USA will team together in the Series’ highly competitive LMP2 class for the 2007 season. The Kumho-shod, AER-powered Intersport Lola B05/40 will turn its first competitive laps at the 55th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 17.
A year after achieving landmark victories at Sebring and Le Mans in 2006, Panoz now has its eyes set on the American Le Mans Series GT2 championship with two of the most respected and well-known names in sports car racing.
With an eye toward contending for another GT2 championship in the American Le Mans Series, Flying Lizard Motorsports has signed two-time class title winner Jorg Bergmeister for the full 2007 season. Bergmeister, GT2 champion in 2005 and 2006, will join Johannes van Overbeek in the team’s No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
