Audi won the battle and the war Saturday night at Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7. Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello won for the seventh time this season in the American Le Mans Series, setting an LMP1 class record in the process.
Nic Minassian definitely has found a comfort zone racing in the American Le Mans Series. Minassian earned his second Series pole position in three career events, taking the top spot in qualifying for the ninth-annual Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7 on Friday at Road Atlanta.
Today at the State of the Series at Road Atlanta the 2007 American Le Mans Series was announced. Three new markets will be part of their marketing strategy to give a new view to fans around North America. The series is also expanding to a 12-race schedule versus the 10 in 2006. Five rounds will take place before the break for the teams that head over the pond for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Darkness fell in Northeast Georgia as the cars and stars of the American Le Mans Series came out for a two-hour night practice at Road Atlanta and Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7. And no one shined brighter than Audi Sport North America’s Allan McNish, racing for the first time at Road Atlanta since 2000.

Audi hasn’t lost an American Le Mans Series race at Road Atlanta since its debut in 2000. Through the first day of the ninth annual Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7, it appears the German manufacturer will continue its unbeaten streak.
The cars are the stars in the American Le Mans Series, but the driver lineup for the ninth annual Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7 also is ripe with the best from various forms of motorsport.

Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7 is off to a bit of an early start. Five cars that are entered in next weekend’s ninth annual 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance classic took part in the first day of a three-day test period Friday at Road Atlanta. More teams will take the track Saturday and Sunday as the ninth round of the American Le Mans Series nears.

Through the first eight rounds of the 2006 season, the competition in the GT2 class has produced the tightest team championship battle within the American Le Mans Series. Two points is all that separates the top two teams, Flying Lizard Motorsports and Risi Competizione, while third-place Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing stands only 16 points out of first.
