Emanuele Pirro is ecstatic to be back in the American Le Mans Series, and it’s safe to say so are his legions fans. After an unfortunate retirement at Sebring in the debut race for the diesel-powered Audi R10 TDI, Pirro and Biela returned to Europe in preparation of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which they captured for the fourth time in June. Now Pirro and Biela are back with Audi Sport North America, which has entered two R10 TDIs for the remaining schedule.

The Audi R10 TDI remains unbeaten: Frank Biela (Germany) and Emanuele Pirro (Italy) celebrated together with their team-mates Dindo Capello (Italy) and Allan McNish (Scotland) a double victory in the fifth race of Audi’s new diesel sportscar. In the seventh round of the American Le Mans Series at Road America (US state of Wisconsin) Biela and Pirro clinched their third victory of the season – including the Le Mans 24 Hours – by a margin of just 0.4 seconds.

Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand co-drove the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 to a season’s best second place in the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series’ Generac 500 today at Road America. The duo completed 71 laps of the venerable 4.048-mile Road America circuit, finishing only 4.237 seconds behind the class-winning Porsche. Auberlen and Hand both led during the two-hour-and-forty-five minute contest – Hand relinquishing the lead only three laps from the end after a fierce battle with winner Jorg Bergmeister.

Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing has a love affair with the beautiful Road America facility here in Elkhart Lake, Wisc. Since debuting the No. 31 MMPIE/PAWS/Michelin Porsche 911 GT3 RSR at the 4.048-mile course in 2002, the Michael Petersen-owned operation has tallied trio of American Le Mans Series GT2 class victories including today’s Generac 500 at Road America. Today’s one minute, 3.389 second victory, the Dale White-managed team’s eighth in the Series, did not come easy. Despite starting from the class pole position Patrick Long (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Jörg Bergmeister (Langenfeld, Germany) had to battle nose-to-tail for most of the day to take the checkered flag first. It was the 2005 American Le Mans Series GT2 Champions second victory of the season.
