Liz Halliday and Intersport Racing Score Another Class Win in Houston

American three-day eventing rider and sportscar racing driver Liz Halliday continued her 2006 winning streak today, taking the LMP2 class of the Lone Star Grand Prix with team mate Clint Field and top privateer racing team Intersport Racing. Following their LMP2 class success in Sebring in March, Liz Halliday’s and Clint Field’s second win in as many races, again beating the two mighty works Porsches, mean that they have extended their lead in the 2006 Drivers Championship whilst Intersport Racing has also extended its lead in the Teams’ Championship. To complete her success of the day, the organizers awarded Liz the Founders Trophy - an award given to privateer drivers. Her fifth career Series win means that she ties for the most victories by a female driver in the American Le Mans Series.

Houston, Texas–Flying Lizard Motorsports brought the team’s two Porsches in for 2nd and 5th place finishes in today’s Lone Star Grand Prix of Houston. In the second race of the 10-race ALMS season, both team cars ran another solid race. Wolf Henzler cleared the finish line in the No. 45 2nd in GT2, and teammate Lonnie Pechnik followed close behind in the No. 44, finishing 5th in GT2. With this result, Flying Lizard is 1st in GT2 championship points with Johannes van Overbeek leading in GT2 driver points.

The Romain Dumas/Timo Bernhard Penske Porsche RS Spyder made American Le Mans Series history for Porsche Saturday night by taking the overall race lead for the first time early in the Lone Star Grand Prix of Houston. It then held the lead for 72 of the 143 laps before a late-race drivetrain problem sidelined the car.

Dindo Capello (Italy) and Allan McNish (Scotland) extended their American Le Mans Series lead when they steered their “factory” Audi R8 home to victory in the inaugural Grand Prix in Houston (US state of Texas) on Friday night. It was the 62nd victory for the most successful Le Mans prototype from 78 races.

On a track that drivers termed bumpier than Sebring, the number 16 car of James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger finished second in class and sixth overall. Chris Dyson and Guy Smith brought the sister 20 car home third in class on this inaugural 1.7 mile street course run under the lights around Reliant Stadium.

The two-time Le Mans class-winning effort also confirmed marketing support from Krohn Racing for the Automobile Club De L’Ouest-sanctioned event. Corvette Racing’s twin Corvettes will start the inaugural ALMS Lone Star Grand Prix at the front of the GT1 class after Ron Fellows and Olivier Beretta qualified first and second respectively. Fellows turned the quickest qualifying lap for the 16th time in his ALMS career with a time of 1:08.035 (89.425 mph) in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R on the 1.7-mile, 10-turn temporary circuit in Houston’s Reliant Park. Olivier Beretta was just a heartbeat behind at 1.08.090 (89.352 mph) in the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R. Less than six tenths of a second separated the Corvettes from their Aston Martin rivals.
